Avnet, Inc.
Roy Vallee has been chairman and chief executive officer of Avnet since 1998. When he assumed the top leadership position he accelerated the company's role as an industry consolidator. From fiscal 1999 through fiscal 2008 Avnet acquired 33 more companies to increase its geographic coverage, size and scope, and to add on new strategic suppliers and customers. Mr. Vallee also introduced value-based management to Avnet in 2002. Employees have embraced the concepts of return on capital employed (ROCE) greater than the weighted average cost of capital and operational return on working capital and have contributed to considerable cost savings and process improvements in the last few years. In fiscal 2008, the company's focus on value-based management and value- creating merger and acquisition activities resulted in record financial results, despite the challenging macro-economic forces impacting Avnet's markets. Disciplined acquisition activity, combined with a strong operating performance, resulted in a slight improvement in return on capital and economic profit volume year over year.
Rick Hamada serves president and chief operating officer for Avnet, Inc. and has responsibility for overseeing the strategic direction and day-to-day operations of Avnet's operating groups --Avnet Electronics Marketing and Avnet Technology Solutions. In addition, Mr. Hamada is responsible for providing operational leadership for Avnet Logistics, Global Information Solutions and Operational Excellence. He reports to Avnet Chairman & CEO Roy Vallee.
Mr. Hamada has 25 years of experience with Avnet and a broad background in the technology industry, spanning from his early career as a technical specialist to leading a multi-billion dollar sales and marketing organization.
