September 15, 2009 - Avnet, Inc. Ranks in the Top 100 of the InformationWeek 500 for the Sixth Consecutive Year

Avnet Honored for Its Innovative Approach to Global Supply Chain Management

PHOENIX -- Avnet, Inc. (NYSE:AVT), a leading global technology distributor, today announced it was named to the prestigious InformationWeek 500. Ranking 52 overall on the 2009 list, this marks the sixth consecutive year that Avnet has been honored as one of the top 100 innovative information technology (IT) users. InformationWeek recognized Avnet based on the systems it developed to track supply and design chain information for its electronic components operating group, Avnet Electronics Marketing, globally.

"Avnet's customers and suppliers rely on our global scale and scope to help them cost-effectively conduct business around the world," said Steve Phillips, Avnet's chief information officer. "In order to support our business partners' cross-regional product design and manufacturing needs, Avnet created an IT system that tracks electronic component supply and design chain information globally. Our business and IT teams have worked tirelessly to ensure Avnet's continued success in efficiently managing global supply chains. This honor and recognition of our teams' efforts validates our strategy to tightly tie our IT and business teams together in order to create a competitive advantage."

Avnet's business and IT teams worked collaboratively to create a global business migration system, enabling them to manage the nuances in their customers' and suppliers' supply chains as product manufacturing increasingly moves to Asia while electronic component design work predominantly remains based in North America and EMEA. The system allows Avnet to track its customers' and suppliers' supply chain information globally, account for global business migration in forecasts, and manage inventories across regions. This innovative service-oriented architecture-based (SOA) system has played a critical role in tens of thousands of designs and facilitated hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue.

"For over 20 years, the InformationWeek 500 has honored the most innovative users of business technology," said InformationWeek Editor-in-Chief Rob Preston. "Year after year, InformationWeek 500 companies harness technology to improve efficiency, boost productivity, drive revenue, and establish a competitive advantage. We applaud this year's winners, and the CIOs and other executives whose ingenuity and risk taking are at the center of business technology innovation."

InformationWeek identifies and honors the nation's most innovative users of IT with its annual 500 listing, now in its 21st year, and also tracks the technology, strategies, investments and administrative practices of America's best-known companies. Top winners have included: Conway, National Semiconductor, Kimberly-Clark, Hilton Hotels and Unum. The InformationWeek 500 rankings are unique among corporate rankings as it spotlights the power of innovation in IT, rather than simply identifying the biggest IT spenders.
