PHOENIX -- Avnet Electronics Marketing Americas, a business region of Avnet, Inc. (NYSE:AVT), announced Ed Smith, senior vice president of sales, has received the National Electronic Distributors Association (NEDA) Distinguished Service Award.
Smith was recognized for his work in education on behalf of the NEDA Education Foundation. The award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the leadership and activities of the association and was given out earlier this week at the NEDA Executive Conference in Chicago. NEDA is the not-for-profit trade association representing supplier authorized distributors of electronic components and their manufacturer-suppliers.
"Ed Smith hit the ground running as a newcomer on the NEDA Education Foundation Board and quickly volunteered to take on a major project for the foundation," said Robin Gray, NEDA executive vice president. "The results so impressed the NEDA board that he is the first recipient to receive the Distinguished Service Award while still a member of the board."
Smith is a 20-year veteran of the electronics industry and has led the Avnet Electronics Marketing Americas sales team since 2004. He has also served as a board member of the American Red Cross of Ventura County, Calif. and currently runs a charitable foundation, the We Will Never Forget Foundation. "I am honored to receive this award from my peers -- but I give credit to the entire board for its work to create a better future for the next generation, and for our industry. That's what it is all about, and I'm happy to do my part."
